The quality of relationships and very high standard of teamwork at Lochies School are praised in a report by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education published today.

Along with the success of the school's headteacher in leading improvement, staff were commended for their ability to meet learning needs and create links with parents and the local community, with some aspects of their work judged to be outstanding. The effective deployment of the school's Home School Link Officer had led to very valuable support being in place for families of children in the school.

High expectations and appropriate levels of challenge ensured that pupils were motivated and making very good progress towards their individual targets within a suitably broad, progressive, relevant and enjoyable curriculum. The report says that the school should continue to develop this.

The quality of leadership in the school was particularly noted. The headteacher had a clear vision and a focus on continuous improvement which she had shared with staff. The recently appointed depute headteacher was described as a model of good practice and a very strong start had been made to enabling staff to develop their leadership roles.

Headteacher, Rhoda MacDougall, who has just completed her first year at the school said: "I am delighted that our hardworking pupils and staff have been praised by the inspectors. The high level of commitment and team spirit make this a super school to work in. We endeavour to provide our children with a wide range of experiences to develop their all round potential and although this is a great report, we are looking forward to doing even better in the future."

Councillor George Matchett, Inclusion Portfolio Holder added: "We in Clackmannanshire Council are proud of our record on meeting the needs of all our children. This excellent report shows that our pride is justified. I am confident that Lochies School will continue to develop and improve in the ways suggested by Her Majesty's Inspectors."

Lochies School is a school for primary aged children with severe/complex Additional Support Needs. There are currently 23 children in the school which shares a site with Deerpark Primary School in Sauchie.
