Clackmannanshire Council is holding a public meeting at Devonvale Hall in Tillicoultry at 7pm on Thursday 3 July. The meeting will update attendees on the issues surrounding the flooding of the Elistoun Drive and Kirktoun Gardens area in January 2008.

Following the flooding, the Council asked a specialist consultant, JBA Consulting Ltd, to look at the reasons for the event and possible solutions. The Consultant reported back that the flooding was caused by exceptionally high rainfall, and that a number of possible options to reduce the flood risk in the area needed more detailed investigation. A report to Council on 5 June outlined these long-term options.

Council has decided to ask each affected property-owner for permission to carry out an assessment and recommend possible interim defences for individual properties. These would have the advantage of not creating further flood risks up- or down-stream.

The forthcoming public meeting will include:

  • The Council's current position and intended steps
  • A presentation by JBA Consulting Ltd on the individual property assessment process
  • A presentation by JBA Consulting Ltd on appraisal of long-term flood risk reduction options
  • An opportunity to ask questions
