A new initiative which provides fun and healthy activities for vulnerable and isolated women gets underway this week.
WISH - Women in Sport and Health - has recruited it's first 50 members who will be presented with their membership cards at an event on Friday 16th May.
You are invited to send a photographer to Lime Tree House at 11.30am on Friday when the first membership card will be presented to Alloa woman Andrea Neal.
WISH follows on from the successful Street Sport initiative which has helped many men across Forth Valley to improve their lives.
WISH is open to all women aged over 16 in Clackmannanshire, particularly those who feel isolated and need support to move their lives forward.
A huge range of free activities such as health and fitness classes, computer workshops and volunteer work are available with childcare and transport assistance also on offer.
The initiative is funded by the Council, Forth Valley NHS and the Scottish Government.
The aims of WISH are:
Council Leader Janet Cadenhead said: "I think WISH is an excellent project which will help and support many local vulnerable women to start to turn their lives around. By attending classes and activities they will meet new people and begin to get involved in their local community - an important first step towards possible training or preparation for work."
Elaine Cochrane, NHS Forth Valley Health Promotion Officer, Community Settings, said: "The project is an excellent way of engaging with women who are traditionally hard to reach. Through this scheme there are many positive benefits to health and well being, not least the chance to improve confidence and self esteem and increase their hopes for the future and a more positive outlook on life."
Pauline McCart, Managing Director of the Wee County News is the WISH Champion and she will be attending Friday's event.
