Children at Tillicoultry Primary School are taking part their Health and Fitness focus week when all pupils from Nursery to P7 will enjoy a range of activities which promote health and well being.
Pupils will come prepared and participate in an exciting range of activities including an assault course, circus skills, basketball, dance and Tae-Kwon-Do. Pupils will also receive input on healthy eating and careers in sport.
This fun packed week forms part of the formal curriculum and reinforces the school's commitment to health promotion.
Pupils and staff are looking forward to an enjoyable time where the whole school community will demonstrate their health and fitness, learn new skills, share new experiences and take part in the annual charitable Jump Rope for Heart sponsored skipping event for the British Heart Foundation.
Tillicoultry Primary School has been participating in Jump Rope for Heart for over six years and has raised at least £6,000. A sponsored skipping event will take place on Friday 16th May, an energetic and worthwhile end to the week.
Carol Leddy, Tillicoultry Primary School's Head Teacher, said: "Health and well being is so important for pupils. It has a crucial impact on their learning and development as described in 'A Curriculum for Excellence'. We timetable a wide range of health activities for pupils and staff during this week. Tillicoultry Primary School has met all the criteria for the highest level of award in the Health Promoting Schools Accreditation Programme. Our pupils' attainment in reading, writing and maths was recently judge by HMIe as being "very good" and we know our general health and fitness programmes contribute to that success."
