On 26 April local residents, young and old, braved the elements to take part in a Council-organised spring clean of the Devon Way. They joined forces with the Clackmannanshire Biodiversity Partnership, Countryside Rangers and Community Wardens to clear a truck load of drinks cans, bottles and sweet wrappers, as well as a couple of old mattresses.

25 volunteers turned out for the event, which was part of Clackmannanshire's contribution to Scotland's National Spring Clean Campaign. Menstrie and Alva Scout groups are also holding cleaning events.

A fun contribution

Council Biodiversity Coordinator Guy Harewood said, Events like this are fun and make a real contribution to the way the countryside looks and the health of the wildlife it supports. Plastic bags, for example, can easily choke waterfowl, while cigarette butts can contaminate waterways.

I would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to help. We want to encourage everyone to do their part to keep Clackmannanshire beautiful by taking their litter home with them and picking up any litter they see while out and about.
