The finishing touches are being made to the plans for the community fayre which will celebrate the re-opening of Alloa's railway.

The event on Saturday 17th May will begin with a parade through Alloa Town Centre - it will leave Kilncraigs at 11.30am and lead to Greenfield Park where a fun-packed afternoon of free family entertainment will take place.

The parade will have a transport theme and be led by a road train with many participants in fancy dress. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Armstrong Sidley cars, cyclists, a penny farthing, Asda trolleys and wacky races will also be in the parade.

The fayre will be officially opened at noon by Provost Derek Stewart followed by a huge programme of entertainment with something for all ages.

Alloa & Bowmar Pipe Band kick off the action in the main arena with popular DJ Dougie Jackson providing music from his roadshow throughout the afternoon.

Other attractions include: falconry, a fun fair, street entertainers, pony rides, cheerleaders, inflatables, Oscar the Robot, Alba Re-enactment Society, Hillfoots Music for Youth, storytelling and puppet shows.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsorship from local companies all of the entertainment on the day will be free.

The event will be a fundraising opportunity for many local community, voluntary and charity groups and all the stalls were snapped up quickly. Among the groups with stalls are: Action Medical Research, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Ochil Lets, Sauchie and District friends of Strathcarron, Alloa Beavers, The Brionni Trust, Fishcross Junior Youth Group, Alva Glen Heritage Trust, 383 (Alloa) Squadron Air Training Corps, Sauchie Guides, Tullibody History Group, St Mungo's Parish Church, Tullibody History Association, CRAFT, Sauchie Tiny Tots, Forth Environment Link, Clackmannanshire Conservatives, Girl Guiding Clackmannanshire, The Friendship Club, Good Green Fun, Clackmannanshire District Scouts, Alloa Community Council, Orchard Care Centre and the Red Cross. Clackmannanshire Council will also have a stall at the event promoting the wide variety of services we provide.

Provost Derek Stewart said: "I am delighted that such an exciting event has been organised to celebrate this historic occasion. There truly will be something for everyone at the fayre and a spectacular day is in store for locals and visitors alike."

Stalls, entertainment, fancy dress costumes and heritage will combine to celebrate the re-opening of the rail line through Alloa. Hundreds of local people and visitors are expected to attend the fayre in Greenfield Park. No parking will be available at Greenfield on the day, but 600 free parking spaces are available elsewhere the town centre as well as public transport options.
