Zones Leisure Centre was closed earlier this year. It had been underused for some time, with customer income declining to 17.4% of what was expected, and needed £600,000 investment to make it safe. On 31 January, the Council decided to review the opportunities for the Centre's future use and the possible lease or disposal of the building.
In accordance with this, Clackmannanshire Council is now inviting expressions of interest in the Centre. It is looking at all possible ways to potentially retain the building as a leisure or other public facility, including redevelopment, leasing or sale to a carefully selected new operator. The Council is hoping to attract bids from interested parties who see a future in developing the commercial and leisure aspects of the property.
Chief Executive Dave Jones said: "We are keen to see the building used for the benefit of the general public, but the Council simply cannot afford the refurbishment it needs and that citizens deserve. That's why we are now investigating all possible ways to see the facility developed fully, whether or not it is in Council ownership."
The Zones building occupies a prominent location on Clackmannan Road and as such offers significant potential for development.
