Upper Deck Catering at Braehead Golf Club is the latest eatery in Clackmannanshire to receive the Eat Safe Award.

This is the third prestigious food hygiene award to be granted in Clackmannanshire. It is awarded by the Food Standards Agency for achieving excellence in food hygiene and food safety management.

You are invited to send a photographer to Braehead Golf Club on 14th April 2008 at 2pm when Councillor Eddie Carrick will present the Eat Safe certificate to Upper Deck Catering proprietors John Muldoon and Caroline Wilson.

Councillor Carrick, Clackmannanshire Council's Sustainability Portfolio holder, said: "I would like to congratulate all the staff here who have worked extremely hard to achieve the Eat Safe standard. It is very encouraging to see more businesses in the area achieving the Eat Safe Award. The award is designed to enable caterers to let their customers know that they put hygiene
at the top of their list of priorities. I would urge other local food businesses to strive for this award and I hope to see many more Eat Safe certificates being awarded throughout the county in the coming months."

Mr Muldoon added: "We're delighted to receive this certificate as it demonstrates the importance we place on food safety, meeting not only our legal obligation to food safety but going significantly beyond that. This award proves that we meet extremely high standards of food hygiene which I hope it will encourage even more customers to enjoy a meal in the attractive surroundings of Braehead Golf Club."

The Eat Safe Awards are presented to food businesses that have achieved the highest standards in food safety management. The previous recipients of the Eat Safe Award in Clackmannanshire are Dollar's Castle Campbell Hotel and the Whins Resource Centre.

The Eat Safe scheme was launched by the Food Standards Agency in January 2005 with the aim of improving public confidence and consumer choice in catering establishments across the country. Since then, over 300 establishments have been presented with awards.

Eligible establishments are assessed for the Eat Safe Award as part of scheduled food hygiene inspections carried out by the Council's environmental health team. The issue and control of certificates is regulated through the local authority and is reviewed at every planned food hygiene inspection.
