Basketball finals

Alloa Academy played host to the final of the Clackmannanshire Primary Schools Sports Association (CPSSA) Basketball League for P4 boys and girls on Tuesday 1 April. Over 21 teams from Clackmannanshire Council's primary schools competed in the league, with six qualifying for these finals:

  • Abercromby
  • Tillicoultry A
  • Tillicoultry B
  • St Bernadettes
  • St Johns
  • Sunnyside

This basketball league started in February this year with 13 schools represented and over 130 children competing regularly.

Exciting competition

A high standard of play resulted in some highly entertaining and exciting matches. Tillicoultry B were ultimately victorious, with St Bernadettes runners up. The final was watched by over 80 people and there was a great atmosphere in the hall. St Bernadettes took an early lead in the match only for Tillicoultry B to draw level late in the game. A shoot out was required to decide the match and it took to the fifth attempt to separate the teams.

In the third place play-off, Tillicoultry A faced Sunnyside and after a 2-2 draw and extra time a shoot out saw Tillicoultry edge out Sunnyside 2-1.

Ryan Martin of the Council's Sports Development Unit commented, I was so impressed by the standard of performance and the participants determination and skill shown throughout the league. There was a lot of promising potential on show and I hope they will continue developing as players. At the event the atmosphere throughout was electric and the enthusiasm of the children was very audible. A big congratulations to all that took part and to the PE teachers, volunteers, and parents that made this event possible.
