The opening day of the 2008 season at Gartmorn Dam on Tuesday 1st April was a great success - despite the wet and windy weather doing its best to spoil things.
Over 30 anglers turned out for the opening with more joining them later, determined to enjoy an excellent first day's fishing.

Provost Derek Stewart was on hand first thing to officially open the fishery for the 2008 season. He said: "Gartmorn Dam is the perfect setting for a gentle day's brown trout fishing and I was delighted to see so many adults and young people come along on the open day. I'm sure they will be back again and again over the course of the season."

The fishery offers excellent value for money, with no price increase for the 2008 season, which is the third year of the 'Back to Brown Trout' programme. The last two seasons have seen a massive shift from 6% to 57% of fish caught in favour of brown trout, making it a more traditional Scottish fishery.

This well-established fishery continues to offer excellent fishing for brown and rainbow trout. The water is 167 acres and is ideal for novice and experienced anglers alike.

Fly-fishing only is allowed from 9 boats, taking between one and three anglers each, with fly and spinning from the shoreline. Bait fishing with worms and maggots is now allowed from the headwall area of the water.

The fishery is open from 9am until sunset, 7 days a week. Advance booking of boats is advisable and each comes with an outboard motor. Junior anglers must be accompanied by an adult angler. For more information or to book a boat, call 01259 214319.
