Services to People at Clackmannanshire Council has been given a national stamp of approval by the leading professional body for sport and leisure.
The service's work to promote active and healthy lifestyles for residents across the county impressed assessors at the Institute of Sport, Parks and Leisure.
As a result the service was awarded the Active-Physical Activity Recognition Programme. A presentation will take place at Lime Tree House on Tuesday 18th March at 4pm. You are invited to send a photographer.
Services to People includes all services in the areas of education and lifelong learning, housing, social services, both adult and childcare, community and cultural, leisure, sports development and criminal justice.
Representatives from cultural, leisure, sports development, health and safety and chief executives were interviewed by representatives from ISPAL, along with business representatives, voluntary sector and Forth Valley NHS.
The assessors found a clear commitment by the Council and partners in delivering physical activity through a strong service planning process and corporate framework aligned to the Council's commitment to addressing the issue of health inequalities throughout the community. They also highlighted the wide range of sport, recreational and fitness opportunities available across all age groups and abilities.
Considerable effort is made by the Council to drive and promote healthy eating through innovative ideas within its schools and in the workplace. The assessors also mentioned the reducing pricing for staff to encourage the use of Alloa Leisure Bowl.
Council leader Janet Cadenhead said: "Our corporate priorities include promoting the health, wellbeing and all-round development of each individual and this award shows that we are moving in the right direction towards this aim."
Sue Sutton, Chief Executive of ISPAL and Paul Cluett, Director of Quality Leisure Management Ltd, will present to award to Council representatives accompanied by representatives from the voluntary and business sector.
