Plans for the community fayre to celebrate the re-opening of Alloa's railway are taking shape.

The event on Saturday 17th May will begin with a parade through Alloa Town Centre with many participants in fancy dress - the outfits will have a transport theme. The parade will lead to Greenfield Park where the afternoon's fayre will take place.

Entertainment already booked includes falconry, a road train, a fun fair, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, street entertainers, pony rides, cheerleaders, three inflatables, Oscar the Robot, historic re-enactment, street theatre, pipe band and DJ Dougie Jackson's roadshow.

The event will be a fundraising opportunity for local community, voluntary and charity groups as stalls will be available. For further details contact the Events Team on 01259 721679.

Last year the Council approved funding of £20,000 for a programme of celebrations, and sponsorship from local companies has also been offered.

Thanks to the generosity of local companies a lot of the entertainment on the day will either be free or provided at a minimal cost.

Sponsors are still being sought and there will be lots of opportunities for recognition through publicity on the day and associated literature.

If you are interested in sponsoring the event call Chief Executive's Service on 01259 452003.

A range of other activities in addition to the fayre is also being considered. They include:

  • A travel and tourism fair
  • Railway themed library events
  • Art events aimed at children and youths
  • A rail themed film festival
