A call has been issued to community spirited volunteers to come out in force and take part in a Spring Clean of Clackmannan's Back Wood.
The event on Saturday 28th April has been organised by Clackmannanshire Biodiversity Partnership and the Countryside Rangers to coincide with the first National Spring Clean for six years.
Scotland's last National Spring Clean, organised by Keep Scotland Beautiful, took place in 2000. National Spring Clean 2007 will take place throughout Scotland during April with schools, youth clubs, environmental organisations, voluntary groups, communities and businesses playing an important part in a bigger, co-ordinated campaign.
The local event is being held from 10am - 2pm and volunteers can join in for the whole or part of the day. Volunteers should meet at the end of Backwood Court. All equipment will be provided, although bringing your own gloves is recommended.
Guy Harewood, Clackmannanshire's new Biodiversity Co-ordinator, said: "The majority of litter is caused by the mindless actions of a minority of people, discarding litter anywhere they choose. With Spring in the air I'd like to appeal to people to come along on April 28th and help keep this lovely part of Clackmannanshire looking its best.
"Litter is not only ugly and depressing to look at, but it can also injure or even kill wildlife."
For example:
If you would like to organise your own Spring Clean event, groups and individuals can register via the KSB website www.keepscotlandbeautiful.org/springclean. A free, custom-made Clean-Up Kit with all the information and materials needed to get started will then be issued. To further tempt people to get involved participants will be able to enter a prize draw to win £100 of B&Q vouchers. And for the more artistic participants a digital camera is up for grabs for the winner of the before-and-after photo competition.
The website also highlights activities, case studies and fact sheets in the Youth Zone; providing extra ideas to help educate and involve any children who are involved in a clean up.
Any instances of littering or illicit dumping can be reported to the Council's ELSA Freephone Number 0500 545 540.
