Tackling climate change is high on the Council's agenda.

And on Friday, January 19 councillors will sign up to the Scotland's Climate Change Declaration to mark its commitment to the initiative.

The Declaration is a partnership between the Scottish Executive and every local councils in Scotland and recognises the challenge climate change poses to Scotland and beyond.

Council Leader Margaret Paterson said: "The world has already experienced a number of extreme weather events. Even here in Clackmannanshire the change in our weather patterns is noticeable and as a responsible Council we must do what we can to change things for the better."

You are invited to send a photographer to Greenfield at 11am on Friday January 19 to capture the signing of the declaration.

Niall Urquart, Sustainability Team Leader said: "As a council we have already set in place many actions to protect the environment, and the declaration acknowledges this. However in signing the Declaration we also agree to produce a plan which sets out the steps we will take to improve on our performance on climate change."

Included in the Declaration are commitments to prepare and publicise a plan, with targets and time-scales, to achieve a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from local authority operations including energy use, transport and waste; and to publish an annual statement on progress in addressing climate change.

Minister for the Environment, Ross Finnie, announced that all of Scotland's local authorities will be amongst the first signatories of Scotland's Climate Change Declaration at a launch event earlier this week.

He said: :"Scotland takes climate change seriously. An effective response to climate change cannot be achieved by central government alone. Scotland's communities will be in the front line in responding to the impacts of climate change and also have a role in reducing emissions of greenhouse gases that are contributing to climate change.

"Action at the local level, in support of wider climate change objectives, can lead to a better quality of life for people living and working in different parts of Scotland."
