Local Code of Governance

Local Code of Governance

The Local Code of Governance comprises the systems and processes, culture and values we have in place to ensure that the Council:

  • is well run;
  • operates in a lawful, open, inclusive and honest manner;
  • manages resources effectively, and
  • provides a high standard of service to our customers.

Our local code is consistent with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) framework and guidance for delivering good governance in local government.

The code is underpinned by a framework of systems and processes, based on legislative and regulatory requirements, good practice principles and guidance, that guide our day to day activities.

The effectiveness of our governance arrangements, and the extent to which we have complied with our local code, is monitored and reviewed annually, through the Council’s corporate self-evaluation process. The outcome of this, together with an improvement action plan, is reported in the Annual Governance Statement, which forms part of the Annual Statement of Accounts.
