Imagine Alloa: Public Art Commission  Bookmark and Share

Rob MulhollandRob Mullholland has been chosen to design the major piece of public art as part of the Imagine Alloa project, which will be situated at the top of Alloa High Street.

He is delighted to have been selected for the sculpture commission and was drawn to the project because of its aim to regenerate the town centre and create a vibrant environment to attract new investment and opportunities for Clackmannanshire people.

Rob aims to create an engaging sculpture which reflects the wealth of creativity and history of Alloa's past and future.

He will meet with local people over the next few months to discuss his proposal, which is 4 mirrored figures, 3 of which will be situated at top of Alloa High Street.

Local residents were asked to suggest a specific person from Alloa's past or present to be immortalised in the fourth statue and where it should be sited. A female mill worker has been chosen as the 4th figure, representing Alloa's industrial past.

Installation is planned for March 2010. You can view Rob's sculptures in progress in our Imagine Alloa and Public Art image galleries.

Rob works in metal and his most recent public art has involved creating groups of figures for the Coast Festival in Banff.

Experience

The Aberfoyle-based contemporary artist and designer is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art.

Rob has worked on projects across Scotland including Glasgow, St Andrews and more locally at the Local Lomond and Trossachs National Park. His work at the Loch Ard Sculpture Trail was launched in 2008, where a series of eight sculptures represented the links in the natural food chain of the forest. The project was commissioned by Forestry Commission Scotland and has proved hugely popular with visitors to the National Park.
