Concerned about a child's welfare?
What can you do?
If you are worried that a child may be harmed or neglected, you could do one of the following:
- Contact the local social work office at Lime Tree House on 01259 225000
- Contact your local police station
- Discuss your concerns with a professional you trust such as a Health Visitor or teacher.
When you share your concerns, professionals have a responsibility to act in the interests of the child and may not be in a position to keep what you tell them to themselves.
In some cases, Social Workers, often in partnership with Police, will undertake a skilled and thorough child centred inquiry and assessment of risk. Social Services staff will attempt to identify and assess areas of difficulty or 'risk' within families. Children and young people are at 'risk' if they have suffered or are likely to suffer from:
- physical abuse
- neglect
- sexual abuse
- emotional abuse
- non-organic failure to thrive
We will aim to provide appropriate supports to assist children, young people and their families to overcome their difficulties.
